Every winter Kagyu monks from various Kagyu Shedras "place of learning" (Institution) come together to participate in the traditional buddhist debates. This year monks from 11 Shedras have gathered for the 15th Kagyu Gunchoe (winter debate). These highly spirited, philosophical contest take place over the period of 3 weeks. Over the past three years, the annual winter debates are additionally overseen by His Holiness the Karmapa. His Holiness personally listens to random participants, gives his opinions and if necessary, gives suggestions and corrections.
